About this week's presentation:

Dr. Melinda Messineo, Ball State University professor and member of the MLK Dream Team, presents the findings of the latest survey of race relations in Muncie and Delaware County. She and her students spearheaded the 2020 survey as a follow up effort to the Muncie and Delaware County Race Relations Survey undertaken in 2000. Learn about the current state of race relations in our community compared to twenty years ago, how the pandemic affected the survey, and what's next.

Speaker Biography:

Photograph of Professor Melinda MessineoMelinda Messineo joined the Department of Sociology at Ball State in 1999. Professor Messineo received her degrees from the University of California, Riverside, her MA and PhD in sociology. Professor Messineo’s current research focuses on race, class and gender in the media and the scholarship of teaching and learning. Dr. Messineo currently teaches courses in the sociological of media, research methods, internship, and the sociology major capstone. She is the recipient of the Lawhead Award in Teaching, the Excellence in Teaching Award twice, Outstanding Teaching Award all from Ball State and the Schnabel Teaching Award from the North Central Sociological Association and is the 2022 Recipient of the Distinguished Contributions to Teaching Award
from the American Sociological Association.
