Black History Month at MPL: "Black Lived Experiences in Schools and Community" Oral History Project Overview & Recruitment Event (Adults) In-Person
The Project:
Dr. Kendra Lowery, Ball State University, is conducting research through oral history interviews in order to document and analyze the lived experiences of Black people in Muncie who experienced and/or broke barriers of racial segregation in schools and the larger community.
The Event:
The public is invited to learn from guest speaker Dr. Lowery about her research project and how to become a participant. The event will also provide an opportunity for attendees to schedule an interview session for a later date if they wish to participate in the project.
Recruitement Details:
Dr. Lowery seeks to recruit interview participants who identify as Black and whose lived experiences align with one or more of the following general areas:
a) Graduates of high school or beyond who experienced race-based school segregation as a student or attended a school with a history of racial segregation.
b) Graduates of high school or beyond among the first to racially desegregate schools.
c) Teachers or administrators who experienced race-based school segregation.
d) Teachers or administrators among the first to racially desegregate schools.
e) Community members, educators, and advocates for racial justice and educational equity.
f) Black women in Indiana who are/were the first to break a barrier in their field.
