Frances Perkins: More Than the Answer to a Trivia Question (Adults)

Frances Perkins: More Than the Answer to a Trivia Question (Adults) In-Person

New Event Date: Tuesday, February 18, 1pm

Frances Perkins (1880-1965) was the first female Presidential Cabinet member, serving as Secretary of Labor in FDR's Cabinet from 1933-1945.  She was greatly influential on much of The New Deal.  She had her imprint on Social Security, Workman's Compensation, an 8-hour work day, child labor laws, workplace safety legislation, unemployment insurance, and more.  Perkins credited her grandmother with helping her develop a strong appreciation for history and patriotism.

Richard Harris (Ball State University Emeritus, Adjunct Faculty Member, and American Historian) will highlight Frances Perkins' life and tell us why he believes she deserves to be remembered for her fantastic ability to succeed in what at that time was a man's world.

This event is presented by the Daughters of the American Revolution Paul Revere Chapter in partnership with Muncie Public Library.  Event is free and open to the public and will be followed by the local DAR chapter meeting.
