Black History Month at MPL: Over There & Over Here: A Year in the Life of Muncie African American Women, 1917-1918 (Adults) In-Person
This program takes a trip back to 1917-1918, a notable year in America. The U.S. had just entered World War I, and women at home were supporting the troops while simultaneously fighting for the right to vote and to work in jobs traditionally considered to belong to men. Muncie's African American women had a powerful impact on their community during this consequential year. The program will feature maps, photographs, and newspaper stories about African American women on the home front.
Guest Speaker: Melissa Gentry, BSU Coordinator of the Notable Women of Muncie and Delaware County Project
This program is co-sponsored by Daughters of the American Revolution Paul Revere Chapter, Notable Women of Muncie and Delaware County Project, and Muncie Public Library.
Paul Revere Chapter member, Genet Soule, will provide a "History Moment" at the beginning of the program, sharing excerpts from the book Liberty is Sweet: The Hidden History of the American Revolution, highlighting African Americans who served in the American Revolution.
